He said U.S. healthcare systems will likely launch the promising new Alzheimer’s drug, Leqembi, in the next month or two, after working on payment and administrative policies and how patients will be evaluated and monitored.

Leqembi, which received full regulatory approval in the US last month, has been proven to slow the progression of the disease for people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.

The disease affects an estimated 6.5 million people, most of whom are part of the U.S. government’s Medicare plan for people 65 and older.

Head of the Alzheimer’s research program at Miami Miller University School of Medicine, Dr. “Patients are lining up. They want treatment, but it’s hard to get started right away,” said James Galvin.

Neurologists at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Northwestern Memorial in Chicago and Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles said they plan to launch the drug in the next few months.
